After announcing the separation last year, designer Masaba Gupta and filmmaker Madhu Mantena have filed for divorce at Bandra's Family Court on Wednesday.
The estranged couple released a joint statement which said: "After much thought and consideration, we have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. We have decided to move forward separately and get divorced. We are two individuals who respect and care for each other and have made our own choices. We would appreciate if we are given our privacy in this time."
Masaba is the daughter of 'Badhaai Ho' actress Neena Gupta and former West Indies batsman Vivian Richards. Gupta got married to Mantena in 2015 and announced their separation last year in August.
"Both of us have taken this decision after consulting professionals and our parents. The only thing we are ready to say right now is, 'what we both want out of life individually and separately is putting unnecessary pressure on the marriage and the love that we share. Hence we would take time off from each other and our marriage to figure out for ourselves what we want out of this life'," they said in 2018.
She further went on to add, "We are not strong enough to explain ourselves to even friends who deserve an answer from us.... All we can say to them is to give us time and to give us love when we reach out to you.” Masaba’s post was soon flooded with comments from her well-wishers, friends, and acquaintances from the industry. Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Sagarika Ghatge among others sent out heartfelt messages to the designer.
On the work front, Madhu Mantena, who was once associated with Phantom films, has Hrithik Roshan's 'Super 30', Ranveer Singh's ''83', and 'Ramayana', which is reportedly India's most expensive film with a budget of over Rs 500 crore, as some of the next projects.
Meanwhile, Masaba's new jewellery collection, where she has collaborated with luxury brand, Tribe by Amrapali is out and is called 'Ghana Ghana'.
