  • Farukh Kabir said his new film '377 Ab Normal' deals with LGBTQ+ issues sensitively
  • The Supreme Court verdict of September 2018 regarding section 377 is what inspired him to do this film

‘377 Ab Normal’ directed by Faruk Kabir released online last week, and Kabir has come out more often than not to talk about the movie saying that the movie is primarily for the heterosexual population of India.

"It is a sensitively portrayed story, none of it is caricaturish. Every gay man doesn't need to be feminine. It is a film which is about them but not for them, it is made for the rest of India, for the heterosexual population of India. We have made the film for the whole country to consume,” said Kabir.

The movie is about the personal journeys of two petitioners who help to legalise homosexual relationships. It focuses on the problems faced by the LGBTQ+ community. The filmmaker has also said that he has treated the story in the most organic way and with sensibility.

"Gay men in love feel no different than any other person. Human emotions are same only sexual preferences are different. One has to deal with their sexuality first, which is an internal fight, deal with family and then there is a social taboo as well," said Kabir.

It features Shashank Arora, who recently got a lot of praise for his role in ‘Made in Heaven’ and Maanvi Gagroo who is known for her role in ‘Four More Shots and ‘Tripling.’ It also stars other Bollywood stars such as Zeeshan Ayub, Kumud Mishra, and Tanvi Azmi.

The movie is set against the background of the historic verdict by the Supreme Court of India in September 2018, that partially struck down section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that decriminalised same-sex relationships.
