We Have To Keep The Conversation Alive: Kareena Kapoor Khan On Bollywood #MeToo movement

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan expressed her views on the Bollywood #MeToo movement that has recently set the industry on fire.

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan expressed her views on the Bollywood #MeToo movement that has recently set the industry on fire. While speaking at the launch event of a women-centric radio show on Wednesday, November 21, the actress lauded the women who took up the courage to share their stories about harassment. Kareena said that it is important to address these issues as the stories do provide impetus to women to speak up.

When asked about the security of women in the industry, the 'Veere Di Wedding' actress said ANI, "The fact that so many women have come out and spoken is a start. Earlier people have not spoken for years and today, people have come out and I really appreciate the women who had the courage to stand up and talk and that is going to help all of us change our workplace culture and give us security,".

"And whoever it is, big or small, there is no place (for them), it has to be safe. It doesn't matter if you are the biggest superstar or the smallest, but women have to be secure and the most important thing is that we have to keep the momentum going. We have to keep the conversation alive and once we keep that alive, a lot will change." the 38-year-old added.

The Bollywood #MeToo movement that started with Tanushree Dutta's misconduct allegations against veteran actor Nana Patekar revealed the names of several eminent celebrities who were identified as sexual predators by the women in the industry. From  Alok Nath to Sajid Khan and Vikas Bahl several have been accused of sexual harassment in the wake of the same. Talking about the #MeToo movement the actress appreciated the change that the industry has witnessed over the past few months. 

"A lot has been assessed and a lot of stand has been taken. I am sure legal course is also being taken. So many women have spoken out and so much has happened. For years, people would hide behind the curtains but today, we are openly having a discussion about it. So, it's a huge change."  ANI quoted the actress as saying.

Meanwhile, on the work front, the actress recently appeared in Shashanka Ghosh's 'Veere Di Wedding' along with Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania. Kareena will now feature in Karan Johar's epic drama 'Takht'. The multi starer venture which is staled to release in 2020 will also star Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor in the lead.
