On the occasion of World Heart Day on September 29, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar congratulated his friend Dr. Ramakanta Panda for completing 25,000 cardiac surgeries successfully. He shared a video message for Dr. Panda and hailed his contribution to the profession.

"It's World Heart Day and today I want to congratulate my friend, Asian Heart Institute's Dr. Ramakanta Panda for successfully conducting 25000 surgeries. I hope you continue to save lives with your magical hands and wish you a long life ahead. Thank you." Akshay Kumar said in the video.

Dr. Ramakanta Panda- world's best in redo bypass surgery

Dr. Ramakanta Panda, who is one of the leading cardiac surgeons in India, is considered the world's best in redo bypass surgery. The Padma Bhushan awardee is credited as one of the first in India to introduce redo bypass surgery which is as per media reports, one of the most technically challenging operations in cardiac surgery. Dr. Panda's 99.6% success rate in bypass surgery is widely recognized as a world-class standard. He is also recognized among his peers as one of the pioneers to introduce 'total arterial revascularization' and 'off-pump' bypass surgery.

Set up by Dr. Ramakanta Panda in 2002, the Asian Heart Institute is reportedly the very first hospital in Western India to employ the da Vinci Si Surgical System. The surgeon was also honoured with the prestigious Rashtriya Samman Patra for being one of the highest taxpayers in India. The leading cardiac surgeon spoke to Republic Media Network on World Heart Day and shared many heart-health tips that can help keep heart illnesses at bay.

World Heart Day

The World Heart Federation and the World Health Organisation celebrated the first World Heart Day on September 29, 2000, in order to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, including heart diseases and strokes. The initiative that has now gained momentum is commemorated every year on the same date in over 100 countries. To observe World Heart Day, in recent years, several world's iconic landmarks, monuments, and heritage buildings are illuminated in red.
