'Your country comes first & your responsibility as a citizen is the most important': Here's Deepika Padukone's 'Vote for India' message ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to several celebrities across domains urging them to encourage the voters of India to come out and execute their rights. In a series of Tweets, he addressed several A-listers from the sports and entertainment industry asking them to create voter awareness. Tagging Deepika Padukone, the honourable Prime Minister wrote, 'Requesting @deepikapadukone, @aliaa08 and @AnushkaSharma to urge people to vote in large numbers for the coming elections. As renowned film personalities whose work is admired by many, I am sure their message will have a positive impact on our citizens.'

While Anushka Sharma and Alia Bhatt tweeted back to PM Modi, Deepika decided to voice her opinion at a recent award show. She told the reporters: ""It is very important for everyone to vote. Who you vote for is a personal choice. I think everyone has various experiences through the government. Some people are positively impacted, some people are not. At the end of the day, your country comes first and your responsibility as a citizen is the most important thing. I would encourage everyone to go out there and vote," Deepika told reporters."

Other celebrities like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar and others too answered PM Modi's 'Vote For India' clarion call.

Meanwhile, apart from this, PM Narendra Modi also shared 'Four requests for Democracy' wherein he appealed to the eligible young voters to register for voting and encouraged people to spread awareness about the importance of voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

His four requests to the citizens of the country include: 

  • Register now 
  • Check thoroughly 
  • Plan well 
  • Mobilise others 

The “four requests”, as put out by PM Modi, are for the eligible voters to get themselves registered, make sure their names figure in the list of electoral rolls, plan their voting schedule to make sure they use franchise and to mobilise friends and families to vote in large numbers.

This comes barely four weeks ahead of the first phase of the Lok Sabha election, scheduled on April 11. The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates of General Elections 2019. The nation will go into polls in seven phases beginning from April 11 till May 19. The counting of votes for all the states is scheduled to take place on May 23.
