Sidharth Malhotra said he didn’t know ‘in detail’ the controversy over Zaira Wasim’s decision to quit the film industry due to religious reasons. The actor termed it as her ‘personal matter’ and asked the media persons to ask the ‘Dangal’ actress about the row.

Sidharth and co-star Parineeti Chopra launched the trailer of their next film ‘Jabariya Jodi’ at an event in Mumbai on Monday when the former was asked about Zaira Wasim. The ‘Student of the Year’ star replied, “I haven’t read it in detail, I have only read the headline that one of you have written. Please tell me what the issue is.”

It seems he didn’t expect the reporter to narrate the turn of events and said, ”You are really narrating it to me. Kya baat hai?”

He then replied, “It is her personal matter, I don’t have a say in it, and neither is this the platform to talk about it.  Please ask the question to her.”

The 18-year-old, in a Facebook post on Sunday, announced her "disassociation" from acting in Bollywood. Stating the reason behind her decision, Zaira said that she was not happy with her current line of work, which has silently and unconsciously transitioned her "out of Imaan."The actor shared a detailed post on her social media page, which she also shared across other social media platforms, that read -- "Though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here."

While every controversy sees celebrities maintaining silence, many of those from the film have reacted to this row. Zaira’s last film ‘The Sky is Pink’ makers have backed her decision, but Raveena Tandon took a dig at the teenager.

Leaders from the political field, like Omar Abdullah supported her move while Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed her.

National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah felt the decision could’ve been due to the tough working conditions of the industry.

Anupam Kher felt ‘saddened’ by her decision since her ‘dreams were crushed’ and even felt she could’ve been pressurised, as reports have claimed.

Mukesh Bhatt was of the opinion that there wasn’t too much to read over the row since every person is free to enter the industry and leave whenever they wish to.
