Dev Patel will next be seen in an American-Australian thriller, 'Hotel Mumbai'. The film is based on the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks

Actor Dev Patel who rose to fame with ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ will next be seen in an American-Australian thriller, 'Hotel Mumbai'. The film was recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. While talking to an Indian news agency about the film, while in Toronto, the actor revealed that the message of the film is “you can’t bring us down”. Talking further about the film, he said that he is playing the role of a waiter, who belongs to the slums of Mumbai. His character goes over and above to help the people he is in charge of during the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

Patel said that three weeks post the horrific incident, the hotel was fully functioning and running again to make a point, that "you can’t bring us down". He said that the movie is about everyone in the hotel, including the guest and the staff alike.

The film is based on the horrific terror attack at the Taj Hotel, Mumbai in 2008.  The film traces three days inside the hotel, during which the staff and guests worked together to survive. On November 26, 2008, Mumbai witnessed one of the worst terror attacks, when 10 members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) carried out 12 coordinated shootings and bombing from 26 November to 29 November 2008. Nearly 164 people died and 308 people were wounded in the attack. Earlier, in 2013, filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma had made a film on the terror attack titled 'The Attacks of 26/11', starring Sanjeev Jaiswal and Nana Patekar. Sanjeev Jaiswal, who made his debut in the film had aced the role of Ajmal Kasab, the terrorist who was caught alive by the Indian forces. 

Dev Patel was last seen in the 2016 film ‘Lion’, a biographical drama film which was adapted from the non-fiction book 'A Long Way Home' by Saroo Brierley. The film received a lot of praise and the actor was lauded for his performance in the film. He starred alongside Nicole Kidman in the film.  He was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Academy Awards for the same. Patel won the BAFTA for his role in the film.
