'Aquaman' had a lot riding on its shoulders before its release for the DC cinematic universe was taking a plunge with the exception of Wonder Woman. But the Jason Momoa starrer proved that Aquaman was not only the king of the sea but the king of the box office also. The James Wan directorial set the cash registers ringing overseas and generated massive hype even before actual release in the United States. Now, it has created a massive record that will leave DC fans astounded.
The Jason Momoa starrer has created history by beating Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight at the overseas box office. The underwater superhero film has started off the New Year with a bang as it earned 30 million USD. These figures make 'Aquaman' the highest grossing superhero movie overseas at 649.3 million USD. With these numbers, the latest DC release has gone past the Christian Bale starrer which had grossed 636.8 million USD. Not only that, but the James Wan directorial has also become the second highest superhero movie of all time in China, right behind 'Avengers: Infinity War'. The second spot was previously held by Tom Hardy starrer 'Venom'.
Meanwhile, the James Wan directorial has really left an impression on the Indian crowd. People had given a huge thumbs up to the underwater action-adventure film and had praised it to high heavens.
'Aquaman' follows the story of Arthur Curry, a half human half Atlantean hybrid. He stays on land with his father and resents the kingdom in the deep which apparently killed his mother. However, he must embrace his roots in order to save the world after Princess Mera played by Amber Heard comes to the shore seeking his help.
