Aquaman Box Office: Jason Momoa Starrer Breaks The 1 Billion USD Mark, Becomes Second Highest DC Film Of All Time

The DC cinematic universe has had a good last year. The big release from them, the Jason Momoa starrer 'Aquaman' has become a massive hit since its release around the world and eventually in the United States on December 21. From the very first premiere show which was held in London on November 26, the action film has been receiving positive reviews for the most part. Now, the worldwide collections of the James Wan directorial are in and it has created a record.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, 'Aquaman' has amassed more than 1 billion USD, hence setting a record as the second highest grossing DC film of all time. The honour of the highest one remains to be Christopher Nolan's ' The Dark Knight'. While the film's business figures in terms of domestic box office were 287.9 million USD, the international box office figures stood at a whopping 732.4 million USD, which takes the total to over a billion. 

Meanwhile, the Jason Momoa starrer has already created history by beating Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' at the overseas box office. The underwater superhero film has started off the New Year with a bang as it earned 30 million USD. These figures made 'Aquaman' the highest grossing superhero movie overseas at 649.3 million USD, as of January 3rd. With these numbers, the latest DC release went past the Christian Bale starrer which had grossed 636.8 million USD.

Overall, with such fantastic box office figures, 'Aquaman' looks like just the film that DC cinematic universe was looking for a much-needed revival. The film follows the story of Arthur Curry, a half-human, half-Atlantean who hates his Atlantean roots and stays with his father on land. However, his life takes a major turn when he is contacted by Princess Mera regarding a threat that could destroy all life on land.
