After Dr.Christine Blasey Ford gave her emotional testimony about being sexually assaulted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, several eminent celebrities in the west extended their support to the professor. On Thursday, October 4, over 290 people, including several celebrities were arrested for protesting against Kavanaugh in Washington DC, which included actress Emily Ratajkowski.
Ratajkowski joined hundreds of people who gathered in front of the Hart and Dirksen Senate Office Buildings to raise her voice against Kavanaugh’s nomination after three women accused him of sexual misconduct. The police informed that the protestors were detained in charge of crowding, obstructing, or incommoding. Several photographs were shared on social media in which the celebrities were spotted being escorted by police officers, along with several other protesters.
In fact, later, Emily Ratajkowski shared her story of being arrested for the cause on social media. She took to Instagram and shared a picture of her from the protest where she can be seen holding a banner that read, 'Respect female existence or expect our resistance.' In the post, she described how she was arrested for protesting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh and stated that men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power. She pointed out that Kavanaugh taking up the role of Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States of America is a disrespect to the women in this country. Moreover, taking a strong stand for women's rights, she demanded a government that acknowledges, respects and supports women and encourages gender equality.
“Today I was arrested protesting the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, a man who has been accused by multiple women of sexual assault. Men who hurt women can no longer be placed in positions of power. Kavanaugh’s confirmation as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States is a message to women in this country that they do not matter. I demand a government that acknowledges, respects and supports women as much as it does men,” Ratajkowski wrote on her Instagram post.
