The much anticipated first episode of "Game of Thrones" season eight became available earlier than scheduled for DirecTV Now Customers. HBO premiered the opening episode of the final season on Sunday night, April 14 at 9 PM, but the AT& T-owned service accidentally uploaded it four hours before, and that is at 5 pm.
Many users also claimed that they received a push notification of the episode's availability before it was taken down.
The representatives of the company issued a statement and said, "Apparently our system was as excited as we are for Game of Thrones tonight and gave a few DirecTV Now customers early access to the episode by mistake. When we became aware of the error, we immediately fixed it and we look forward to tuning in this evening."
However, this is not the first time an issue as such has happened. Prior to this, the first four episodes of season 5 were leaked online, due to the advance screeners that were sent out to members of the press. An HBO subsidiary also released a Season 6 episode a day early, and while HBO decided to scrap screeners for Season 7, it was not able to prevent two major leaks in the season.
Meanwhile, the first episode of 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 saw a reunion of the Starks. From Jon Snow meeting Bran Stark and Arya Stark to Tyrion Lannister meeting Sansa Stark, who used to be his wife, the first episode of the final season brought many broken pieces together.
