The first look of DC's upcoming untitled 'Joker' origin film was released on Monday. American director Todd Phillips shared the first look of the film that featured Hollywood actor Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic Batman villain. The director took to his official Instagram account and shared a photograph that featured Phoenix as Joker dressed in an olive colour jacket over an off-white shirt. The iconic smirk on his face gave a finishing touch to the look. Drawing a conclusion to the earlier rumours about the character’s real name he captioned the post as "Arthur"

However, unlike Joker's known appearance, Phoenix was not featured in the clown make-up and green locks. The film tells the story of Batman's most notorious enemy the Joker, the character that managed to mark its place in the history with his iconic looks and witty dialogues. The popular DC comic supervillain was created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson. Joker first appeared in the debut issue of the 'Batman' comic book. Although the plot of the film is kept under wraps, it is known that the film will portray the journey of Arthur, a struggling stand-up comedian, as he evolves to be a full-blown criminal 'The Joker'. There is a lot of interpretation of how the transformation happened, however, one of the interpretation suggests that Joker fell into a vat of chemicals which bleaches his skin, colours his hair green and his lips red, and drives him insane.
ANI reports that the studio described the film as an "exploration of a man disregarded by the society that is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale."
As per media reports, actor Robert De Niro is roped to join the cast of the film. He will be featured as a host of a talk show who is responsible for driving Phoenix's character crazy and he eventually becomes the Clown Prince of Crime. The film scripted by Scott Silver and Todd Phillips, also stars Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron and Josh Pais. It is scheduled to hit the theatres on October 4, 2019.
Moreover, it seems like the 43-year-old actor has already started shooting for the film. On Sunday, September 16, few pictures of the actor from what seemed like the sets of the film surfaced on the internet that showed Phoenix laughing crookedly at a clown and honking its nose.
