Netflix is set to launch a stand-alone film, titled 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch', based on the hit sci-fi anthology series, on Friday. The trailer has also been unveiled and is sure to keep viewers engrossed till the fifth season hits the platform.

Netflix is set to launch a stand-alone film, titled 'Black Mirror: Bandersnatch', based on the hit sci-fi anthology series, on Friday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming giant officially revealed the premiere date when it released a trailer only a day ahead of its debut.

'Black Mirror' explores the negative impact new technology can have on the modern world.  

Set in the 1980s, ‘Bandersnatch’ follows Stefan (played by Fionn Whitehead from ‘Dunkirk’), a young programmer who has hopes of creating a computer game inspired by an adventure novel given to him as a child.  

'Bandersnatch', the first official stand-alone movie from the franchise, will be helmed by 'Black Mirror' director David Slade.  

Will Poulter, Craig Parkinson, Alice Lowe and Asim Chaudhry are part of the cast.   

Meanwhile, the fifth season of 'Black Mirror' is set arrive next year. 

The official synopsis of 'Bandersnatch' states: "In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge.” 

The novel in question is the 1872 book of the same name written by Lewis Caroll which talks about a ferocious creature with a long neck and snapping jaws. The character had later appeared in the poem ‘The Hunting of the Snark' by the writer as well. 

‘Black Mirror’ was launched first on Channel 4, where it ran for two seasons from 2011 to 2013. Later, the series was acquired by Netflix and seasons three and four were streamed on the platform.

Two episodes of the series, third season's ‘San Junipero’ and fourth season’s 'USS Callister' won Outstanding Television Movie at the Emmy Awards, and a total of six honours. 'Black Mirror' has also been awarded and nominated at various other awards platforms. The four seasons of the series have a total of 19 episodes.
