Hollywood actress Vanessa Marquez passed away on Thursday, August 30, after being shot by the police as she pointed a toy gun at them. As per media reports, cops open fired at her as she pointed a gun at them, later confirmed to be a BB-gun, at her residence in Pasadena, California. The incident took place as the South Pasadena police received a call from Marquez’s landlord who informed the authorities that the actress needed immediate medical help. As the cops arrived at her residence, they found her suffering seizure and was acting mentally unstable, as per a statement released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Police Department on Friday, August, 31.
The Police department further informed that the paramedics came in to take care of her health and after an hour-and-a-half of trying to convince her to get some medical help she showed some improvement and began talking to the officers and the medical attendants. However, after a while, the situation got out of control yet again just half-an-hour after the incident and the actress took out a BB-gun and pointed it at the cops. The officers were baffled by her sudden action and misinterpreted the replica to be a real gun which prompted them to shoot her. Following the incident, she was immediately rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
To justify their action, the cops said that the gun looked like an original one and they took the step in the heat of the moment in self-defense. However, it is still unclear where the gun was when she was having the lengthy conversation with the officials. Although the officers were reportedly wearing body-cameras, the footage of the incident won't be released till the investigation is over.
However, Marquez's close ones denied all allegations of her unstable mental health. They said that the actress was having health issues and was facing financial troubles but she showed no signs of depression or any other mental illness. They also revealed how the actress aspired to receive an Oscar and had a positive approach towards her life and career. Vanessa Marquez, 49, appeared in several movies like 'Stand and Deliver', 'Father Hood', etc. She was primarily known for her role on the first three seasons of TV series 'ER' as nurse Wendy Goldman.
