Old Trafford had a regal visitor on Sunday when Manchester United faced Liverpool in what was billed as a fast-paced thrill-a-minute derby but ended up being a disjointed injury-a-minute goalless stalemate. That visitor was none other than Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, and the significance of the character he plays in the epic fantasy series wasn't lost on the United merchandise department who took the opportunity to 'sign him up'!

From its official Facebook handle, Manchester United has shared a photo of Harington meeting with interim head coach and club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In the photo, Solskjaer, also fondly known as the 'Baby-faced assassin' for his looks and goal-scoring prowess, is presenting Harington with a United jersey bearing the number 1, generally accepted to be a goalkeeper's number. While there are, of course, a number of ways to interpret the jersey number - the Night's watch being "the shield that guards the realm of men" sounds like a goalkeeper's job - what's more interesting is the jersey name.

There were a number of things Harington could have been called on the back of the jersey. While having his real name would have been atrociously boring, they could have gone with his screen name - Jon Snow. However, as of the final released episode of Game of Thrones (Season 7 Episode 7), Jon Snow is theoretically defunct, with the character's heritage finally being revealed along with his birth name, which is Aegon Targaryen. However, they've decided to not go with a name, choosing a title instead - "The King In The North".

The photo has been captioned:

"From one King in the North to another. 👑
Great to welcome Game of Thrones star and United fan Kit Harington to Old Trafford on Sunday. 🐺"

Avid followers of Game of Thrones would also have noticed that Kit Harington's hair is cut short - a marker he had a few months back used to earmark the end of Game of Thrones Season 8's filming. On Monday the release of the final season - due on April 14 - seemed closer than ever on account of HBO releasing a new seconds-long clip showing Drogon arriving at Winterfell, much to Arya's delight.
