Marvel chief Kevin Feige revealed that the making of 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' is kept on hold after Director James Gunn was removed from the project in July, this year. Feige while speaking to Entertainment journalist Erick Weber at a Black Panther event in Los Angeles on October 25, stated that the project that was staled to release on 2020, has been kept on hold indefinitely as the cast of the film wanted Gunn to return as the director but Disney declined their demand.

Director James Gunn was fired from his position by Disney after some old tweets were dug out where he made frequent jokes about rape and pedophilia. However, his exit instigated several controversies as the cast of the film stood by his favour and asked the production company to bring him back to his role. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax The Destroyer was a vocal defender of Gunn. In a Twitter post, he wrote, "I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this..@JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. I'm NOT ok with what’s happening to him"

In fact, the whole cast of 'Guardians of Galaxy' came together to sign a letter in support of Gunn, saying that he had grown as a person and he should not be judged on jokes that were nearly a decade old. Putting out the letter in an Instagram post, lead actor Chris Pratt wrote, "Although I don’t support James Gunn’s inappropriate jokes from years ago, he is a good man. I’d personally love to see him reinstated as director of Volume 3. If you please, read the following statement- signed by our entire cast."
