Shadow and Bone on Netlix: Ben Barnes joins cast of upcoming series

Actor Ben Barnes is set to join the cast of Netflix's Shadow and Bone series which is based on Leigh Bardugo's bestselling Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows duology.

The series follows a young soldier named Alina Starkov, played by Jessie Mei Li, who discovers she has a power that can unite the world. Previously, Mei Li was cast in Edgar Wright's psychological thriller Last Night in Soho, which is scheduled to release in 2020.

Li will star as Alina Starkov, with Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Barnes as General Kirigan, Carter as Kaz Brekker, Suman as Inej, and Young as Jesper Fahey. The show hails from Eric Heisserer (Bird Box), with Bardugo as an executive producer and Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) as a producer.

Shadow and Bone is the first installment of the Grisha trilogy, which continues with Siege and Storm and concludes with Ruin and Rising. The books focus on Alina Starkov, a teenage orphan who discovers that she has an incredible power that could save her country, which has been cut in two by an enormous barrier of unending darkness. The Netflix series will adapt more than just the Grisha novels, also incorporating Bardugo’s Six of Crows duology.

The Westworld star Ben Barnes will play General Kirigan, the commander of a magical military elite in Bardugo's fantasy world. The cast also includes Sujaya Dasgupta, Danielle Galligan, Daisy Head, and Simon Sears. The series will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger. However, as per media reports, no date has been finalised yet.
