Queue Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” on your playlists because it has been confirmed that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is returning to write and direct Marvel’s Thor 4.

Waititi will be putting his work on Warner Bros.’ live-action Akira adaptation on hold to devote his full attention on the God of Thunder’s next. There isn’t much scoop out about Thor 4 but it is confirmed that Waititi will team up with Chris Hemsworth again for the project.

It will be interesting to see what’s next for Thor, Considering Avengers: Endgame ended with a tease of Thor heading out to space with the Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have already speculated an Asgardians of the Galaxy storyline inspired by the comics with the same title.

Waititi’s sudden decision to board MCU’s Thor 4 and drop Akira has come as a shocker to many. Akira was soon to hit the production stage but issues with the film’s script and scheduling conflicts with Thor 4, made the director, take the decision.

Warner Bros has put Akira on hold indefinitely - which in the industry is translated to ‘something is canceled.’ According to the sources, Warner Bros will hope that Waititi returns to the project after Thor 4.

The director is attributed to re-energizing the Thor franchise on Thor: Ragnarok. The changes Waititi made to Thor’s character were so appreciated by the fans that they were carried over into Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, even Chris Hemsworth has credited the director for making Thor fun again.

Did he give a hint to the fans earlier in June?

His other films, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Boy, and What We Do in the Shadows have received critical acclaim around the world. Waititi’s next project, JoJo Rabbit, a satirical Holocaust drama, will be released on October 18th.

Marvel fans are desperately waiting for any scoop on MCU phase 4.
