India based documentary film 'Period. End of Sentence' has won an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category at the 91st Academy Awards on Monday, February 25. The film, set in Hapur village outside Delhi, highlights local women's fights against the deeply rooted stigma of menstruation. The achievement of the film has made the nation proud and several celebrities across the globe lauded the film in great words.

As the world acknowledges 'Period. End of Sentence', celebrations are at full swing at Kathikhera village in India. The families of the women appearing in the film can be seen rejoicing the victory and distributing sweets among friends and relatives. Pictures of the family of a woman named Sneha, who appeared in the film surfaced on the internet where they can be seen celebrating the cause.

The film is based on a group of women, including her, which led a revolution here against taboo surrounding menstruation. For generations, these women did not have access to sanitary pads, which lead to health issues and girls dropping out of schools. When a sanitary pad vending machine is installed in the village, the women learn to manufacture and market their own pads, empowering their community. They name their brand FLY. And now, their pads are being used in 40 villages nearby.

The 26-minute film was actually a part of The Pad Project, which was initiated by students at the Oakwood School in Los Angeles and their teacher, Melissa Berton. The film directed by award-winning Iranian-American filmmaker Rayka Zehtabchi and is co-produced by Indian filmmaker Guneet Monga who seems to be overjoyed with the massive achievement of the project. Expressing her feelings, producer Guneet took to Twitter and wrote, "WE WON!!! To every girl on this earth... know that you are a goddess... if heavens are listening... look MA we put @sikhya on the map"
