Travis Scott's lawyer, Edwin F. McPherson, said that the officials involved in the investigation of the Astroworld Fest tragedy have been sending "inconsistent messages" to Scott. His lawyer also claimed that the city officials are trying to 'finger-point' the blame on Scott and are also backtracking from their official statements.

In a statement given to People, Scott's attorney Edwin F. McPherson has accused the city officials, "who have sent inconsistent messages, are backtracking from original statements" regarding Astroworld Fest tragedy. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner was quoted in the New York Times as saying, "You cannot just close when you got 50,000 and over 50,000 individuals. We have to worry about rioting, riots, when you have a group that's young." Yet, just a short time later, Chief Finner states the responsibility to stop the show falls on Travis."

He continued, "It was reported that the Operations Plan designated that only the festival director and executive producers have authority to stop the show, neither of which is part of Travis's crew. This also runs afoul of HPD's own previous actions when it shut down the power and sound at this very festival when the performance ran over 5 minutes back in 2019. Investigations should start proceeding over finger-pointing so that together, we can identify exactly what transpired and how we can prevent anything like this from happening again."

Astroworld Fest tragedy

On November 5, Travis Scott performed in Houston at the Astroworld fest. During his performance, the crowd surged towards the stage that led to a stampede and resulted in the loss of eight lives. Additional 300 hundred concertgoers were injured during the incident. A source told People that the rapper could not see anything as the light was shining and no one told him to stop the show until he ended the concert at 10:10 p.m. local time.

The rapper also took to his Twitter and shared a statement after the incident took place. Travis wrote that he was 'devasted' by the events that unfolded and said that he was cooperating with the investigation.
