Sona Mohapatra expressed her displeasure after Kailash Kher, who was one of the names accused in the #Metoo movement, performed at the Ujjwala Utsav in New Delhi on Thursday.

The event was held by the Government's Ministry of Power and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) to celebrate the role played by various companies of the oil industry. The official page of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited shared pictures from the event and of Kailash’s performance.

In the tweet, the company called the ‘Teri Deewani’ singer ‘legendary’ while adding he had ‘composed, compiled & sung’ the ‘Ujjwala Anthem' and that his ‘rocking performance’ had taken the city by storm.

Sona, who has been among the staunchest voices against Kailash, was naturally not pleased and wrote to HPCL that the person the company had ‘hosted, feted & celebrated’ is ‘also legendary for his predatory ways.’

She tagged the official handle of the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, writing how they ‘must be in know by now’ about women sharing their ordeal against him and asked if women and their safety matter at a time when MeToo matters.

Sona had earlier given a fitting response to Kailash for his recent reaction to the allegations against him.

In an interview few days back, Kailash said that ‘everyone has their own thinking’ and that nothing could come of accusing someone repeatedly. The singer said only when legal recourse is taken, does the matter become authentic.

When asked if Sona’s allegations were ‘baseless’, he had said ‘no’, added that he won’t decide ‘what is right and what is wrong’ and that he was just living his life.

Sona wrote that the ‘burdened police would die’ if every woman who faced sexual harassment took legal recourse but hoped the ones, including minors, ‘assaulted’ by Kher gather the courage to approach the police.

In another post, she asked India to decide as Kailash carried on like ‘nothing has happened’ after nine women spoke about his ‘perverted behaviour’ and ‘horror stories’ despite ‘fear of shame in society, trouble with parents’.

During the peak of the #Metoo movement in October last year, Sona, while sharing anonymous stories of women against Kailash, had accused him of touching her inappropriately and inviting him to his room to ‘catch up.’ Other than Kailash, Sona has also similarly lashed out at Anu Malik.
