SP Balasubrahmanyam slammed actresses for their choice of ‘revealing’ outfits at film events, calling it an ‘all-time low’ moment.

The veteran singer at a recent event was quoted as saying in Telugu that today’s actresses don’t know ‘what kind of dress they should wear’ at film events. SPB wondered if it was an ‘act of innocence’ or if they wore ‘revealing outfits’ so that actors and directors offer them roles. Terming it as an ‘all-time low’ moment, Balasubrahmanyam added he ‘wouldn’t mind’ if his comments ‘anger the heroines’ as most of them don’t understand Telugu.

Here’s what the singer said, "These days, actresses don't know what kind of dress they should wear for film events, etc.  Should their behaviour be taken as an act of innocence?  Or do they think that only if they wear revealing outfits will heroes and directors give them opportunities?  We have reached an all-time low.”

He reportedly continued, "I wouldn't mind even if my comments anger the heroines. In any case, most of them don't know Telugu, so they won't understand my comments."

SPB is considered among the most accomplished singers of all-time and has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan. He is the recipient of multiple National Awards, and other awards for his work in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and other languages. Apart from working with some of the well-known music composers like AR Rahman, Illaiyaraaja, among others, Balasubrahmanyam is known for being Salman Khan’s voice in the early part of his career.

A few years back, another veteran singer, KJ Yesudas’ comments on a woman’s attire had sparked a row. He was quoted as saying, ‘“What should be covered must be covered’. He added women shouldn’t ‘trouble others’ by wearing jeans and that they must ‘behave modestly’ and not try to ‘become like man.’

Two years ago, his comments invited criticism again when he said women in the ‘80s were‘modest and demure’ and ‘maintained respectable distance’ unlike today’s generation of selfie-seeking fans, both male and female, who come close to him.
