Which is the most watched YouTube channel in the world? You might think the handles of international singing sensations like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran could have the highest number of views. But no, an Indian company holds the record for most views on the popular video-sharing site, and it is ahead by not twice, but almost thrice the numbers. It is a well-known music and production company T-Series that holds the much-coveted distinction.
The company’s channel has a whopping 53 billion views on the platform, while those of Bieber, Swift, and Sheeran are almost one-third of it, with around 18 billion, 16 billion and 15 billion views respectively.
T-Series, with 70 million subscribers, is only behind controversial YouTuber PewDiePie in terms of subscribers, and that is also all set to be surpassed soon with the channel adding 1 lakh subscribers every single day, according to a report in The New York Times.
According to the report, the launch of Jio’s 4G telecom service in 2016, offering data at affordable costs played a massive role in bridging the gap between YouTube and remote villages of the country without electricity, helping the website in the process. Not just that, the partnership deals between T-Series and YouTube and their interactions on programming and promotional strategies have turned out to be mutually beneficial for the companies in terms of the viewership.
The report also claimed that all the videos on the channel make numbers at an average of 6.5 million views, with Guru Randhawa’ single ‘Lahore’ being their biggest hit with more than 615 million views.
On achieving this tremendous feat on YouTube, Bhushan Kumar, CMD, T-Series, said, “With changing times especially that we living in the digital era, the usage of internet has grown by leaps and bounds. YouTube has become one place to watch videos that are new, latest or even old. We at T-Series have a bag of varied content which serves to these demands of different age groups, gender, likings, etc. Our main channel and 29 odd sub-channels help us in giving different content piece which has its own audience. We have ensured change with changing times and offer whatever is in demand yet experiment and learn with it.
