American pop sensation Lady Gaga opened up about the effects of rape she suffered as a teenager. Gaga who suffered rape when she was just 19-years-old revealed that she has not been able to overcome the traumatic incident and as a result, is a patient of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In an interview with Vogue, the singer revealed that she decided to share her story with the world in order to set herself free from the memories of the incident. She recalled how she took up the step to ease her pain and said that it was almost like she tried to erase the incident from her brain and that she had to face the monster to heal herself.

Lady Gaga in a statement in 2016 said that she felt like she was lying to the world because she was feeling so much pain but nobody was aware of it, following which she finally decided to not hide anymore and publicly announce that she has PTSD. Gaga also said that she believes that trauma has a brain and it works its way into everything that one does.

The 32-year-old originally named Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta took up the stage-name Lady Gaga in her professional life. She is known for her unconventionality and provocative works and visual experimentation. Gaga started her musical career by performing songs at open mic nights and school plays. She worked as a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing in the initial days from where she was lifted up by renowned rapper Akon, who helped her sign a joint deal with Interscope Records and his own label KonLive Distribution in 2007.

Gaga rose to the limelight following the release of her first album 'The Fame' that released on August 19, 2008, by Interscope Records. Her most celebrated works include songs like  'Just Dance', 'Poker Face', 'Bad Romance', 'Telephone', and 'Alejandro' among others.

Her second album 'Born This Way' that was released in 2011 explored electronic rock and techno and was highly lauded by the audience. Gaga known as one of the best-selling music artists in history bagged several titles in her music career including several Guinness World Records, three Brit Awards, six Grammy Awards, and awards from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Recently in 2018, Gaga starred in the musical romantic drama film 'A Star Is Born' and contributed to its soundtrack. As per media reports, she will be featured on Vogue's October cover.
