Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar expressed her grief over the demise of former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee passed away at 5:05 pm on Thursday, August 16, at the AIIMS, Delhi. Tributes poured in from personalities from various fields, be it, sportsmen, Bollywood celebrities or political figures. Almost everyone paid their respects to Vajpayee who was fondly remembered as one of the greatest statesmen of his time and was quite instrumental in putting in place the most of the reforms that helped modernise the country.
In a conversation with Republic TV on Thursday, August 17, Lata Mangeshkar said that the feeling of losing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee felt similar to losing her father Deenanath Mangeshkar. The Queen of Melody also went on to share her experiences of meeting Vajpayee. Lata Mangeshkar said that Vajpayee was a gentle human being, a good politician, and an even better human being. She also mentioned that Vajpayee would treat everyone he met with respect and would try to be helpful in every way possible for those facing difficulties.
Remembering the tenth Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mangeshkar mentioned a poem 'Than Gayi Maut Se Than Gayi' which was written by Vajpayee and was sung by her. The singer said that it was one of her favourite poems written by Vajpayee. As a tribute to the former late Prime Minister, Mangeshkar posted the poem which is adapted as a song. The Queen of Melody took to her official Twitter handle to post the song as a special tribute to Vajpayee.
In her tweet, Lata Mangeshkar said, " मेरे दद्दा अटलजी एक साधुपुरुष थे.हिमालय जैसे ऊँचे थे और गंगा जैसे पवित्र थे। मैंने उनकी कुछ कविताएँ जब रेकॉर्ड की थी तब ये एक कविता अल्बम में नहीं थी। वो कविता मैं आज उनकी याद को अर्पण करती हूँ."
