As veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar turned 89 on Friday, September 28, several Bollywood celebrities, politicians and eminent personalities extended their wishes to the legendary vocalist. Lata, the playback singer and music director is one of the most respected vocalists of the country. She has sung songs in over thirty-six Indian and foreign languages. However, she has primarily sung in Marathi and Hindi and recorded over a thousand songs for Bollywood films.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to Lata Mangeshkar on the occasion of her birthday. He took to Twitter and wrote, "Respected Lata Didi, best wishes to you on your birthday. Bollywood star Anil Kapoor wished the  'Lag Ja Gale Se' singer and said that she has offered a huge number of songs that can fit in every mood. He further said that her voice will echo in hearts forever. "Happy Birthday, @mangeshkarlata ji! Thank you for giving us a song for every mood and a voice that will echo in our hearts forever...Wishing you lots of love, health & happiness!" he wrote in the Twitter post.

Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit brought reference to her song ''Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Dil Deewana Hai'' to wish the singer. The song which was voiced by Lata featured in the 1997 film 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' starring Madhuri.
