Malia Obama Debuts with 'New Dakota's' Latest song, 'Walking On Air'

Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of former United States President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, made her onscreen debut in a music video.

Malia Obama, the eldest daughter of former United States President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, made her onscreen debut in a music video. The celebrity kid appeared in a Boston-based indie rock group titled 'New Dakotas’ latest song, “Walking on Air" which released on 20th September 2018. In her first appearance, Malia is seen lip-syncing as she grooves to the beats of the song standing in front of a microphone, while in another instance, she is seen playing the harmonica.

The 20-year-old daughter of Barack Obama is a second-year student at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusets. New Dakota's band members which include Alasdair MacKenzie, Chris Haley, Scott Roberts, and Juan Carlos Fernandez del Castillo are all undergraduate students of Harvard, just like Malia. Reportedly, they are senior to her. New Dakota launched their first album 'In the Dark' on October 11, 2017, which constituted of five songs- 'Hold That Pose', 'Bad Timing', 'You've Got Some Problems', 'You Don't Care' and 'Where I Fall'. This is the second instalment of the rock band that says they "chase sounds that make them happy".

Malia's interest in music was never a secret. In fact, she has often been spotted attending several music festivals. Recently, she was seen attending Beyoncé and Jay-Z's 'On the Run II' show in Paris with her mom, Michelle Obama, and younger sister.

As per media reports, she has previously worked as an intern for Lena Dunham's HBO series 'Girls'. Moreover,  in May this year, Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama have also marked their debut in the entertainment business. Web streaming giant Netflix had announced on May 2018 that they will be collaborating with the former first couple to produce various projects including scripted and unscripted series, documentaries and features. All their creations will be featured under the banner of their newly formed company, Higher Ground Productions.
