  • Mika Singh had performed at a wedding in Karachi two weeks ago
  • There was intense outrage over it amid tension between India-Pakistan
  • Now, the film bodies that had banned him, have taken their decisions back after he apologised

After ‘banning’ Mika Singh for performing at a wedding in Pakistan earlier this month, the film associations have withdrawn the the non-co-operation decision against the singer after he apologised to the associations. The decision was taken after the associations took note of Mika's situation, having signed the contract before the tension between India and Pakistan escalated and his assurance that such an event won’t happen again.

Film body's take

At a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday, Ashoke Pandit, President of Indian Film and Television Directors Association and Chief Advisor of Federation of Western India Cine Employees, one of the bodies that had banned Mika Singh, shared that the associations have always taken a serious stand against artists who have flouted the norms as far as collaborations between Indian and Pakistan artists are concerned, especially after the Pulwama attack in February. He stated that they have sent a non-co-operation notice to the Pakistani artists performing here or the Indian artists performing in Pakistan.

However, Pandit said, “In good humility and good relation with Mika because he is a known person from the industry, he is respected in this country, an iconic figure, so we will not be harsh. He also has faith in us. Let’s make a new beginning. We are taking this non-co-operation back with the condition that Mika has committed to us that it will not happen again.”

Mika apologises

Mika clarified, "When I performed in Pakistan, my main motive was that I want to go to Nankana Sahib. All know that the routes have been opened now."  He added that he had plans to visit another Gurudwara.

He continued, "The deal was signed long back, we had made a commitment. I had reached there on 3rd, and on 5th, the row over Kashmir happened. It wasn’t that I wanted to do the show at any cost, it was just that all this happened by mistake, that I went there and the Article 370 decision was made here. I approached the association and told them that I didn’t want to hurt the citizens of our country and my fans. Once again, if I have made a mistake, I apologise to the federation, media, my fans and to the entire country.”
