Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan accused of smuggling foreign currency out of India

The Enforcement Directorate has taken action against Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on charges of smuggling foreign currency out of India. The ED has issued a showcause notice to the singer under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). According to reports, the notice has been reissued as he has been responded to it yet.

The Enforcement Directorate has taken action against Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on charges of smuggling foreign currency out of India.

The ED has issued a showcause notice to the singer under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). According to reports, the notice has been reissued as he has been responded to it yet.  

 Previously, Khan was detained at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in New Delhi for carrying undeclared cash of 1.24 lakhs USD (Rs 60 lakh then) in 2011.  

The veteran singer lent his voice for songs of popular films of last year like ‘Tere Bin’ from Rohit Shetty's ‘Simmba' starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan, ‘Tanha Hua’ from Aanand L Rai's ‘Zero’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, apart from songs in movies like ‘Bazaar’, ‘Namaste England’, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ and ‘Raid’ among others.

Khans has been constantly singing for Bollywood films and even visited the country, though no prominent actor from the neighbouring state has worked in India amid an ‘unofficial ban’ on them since the attacks in Uri in 2016.

While Khan has been a known face in Pakistani music industry since '90s, it was 'Mann Ki Lagan' from Bhatts' film 'Paap' in 2003 that had brought him to the limelight in Bollywood. 

'Aaj Din Chadheya' from 'Love Aaj Kal', 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' from 'Dabangg', 'Dil To Bachcha Hai' from 'Ishqiya', 'Sajda' from 'My Name is Khan', 'Teri Meri' from 'Bodyguard', 'Jag Ghoomeya' from 'Sultan', 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye' from 'Kalyug' and 'Mere Rashke Qamar' from 'Baadshaho' are some of his other popular tracks that have fetched him awards galore.
