According to reports, officials in Kadapa district on Friday seized three theatres for defying the orders of the Election Commission and screening the movie in the morning shows on May 1, the day of its release. Theatre owners initially escaped any major punishment and were let off with a warning by the local revenue officials, reports claimed.

However, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Gopal Krishna Dwivedi was not pleased and has now requested that EC takes action against Kadapa district Joint Collector under whose jurisdiction the screenings took place. Later, the orders to seize the theatres were issued, and they will not to able to screen films.

RGV had earlier announced that ‘Lakshmi's NTR’ was to be released on May 1. However, when he arrived in Vijayawada in the state on Sunday to promote the movie by calling a press conference, he was detained. The officials cited chances of law and order issue to disallow the director from hosting the event and even asked him to go back to Hyderabad.

On Tuesday, the EC further directed the makers to not release the movie, reiterating its April 10 order stalling any biopic that affects the level-playing field for any political party during the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections.
