After fully shot 'Varmaa', Tamil remake of 'Arjun Reddy' gets controversially scrapped, 'October' actress Banita Sandhu joins cast

There’s been trouble for Vikram’s son Dhruv Vikram’s debut ‘Varmaa’ which after being fully shot, has been scrapped for being ‘unsatisfactory’. The makers are going ahead with a reshoot of the movie, which is the Tamil remake of Telugu hit ‘Arjun Reddy’, and ‘October’ actress Banita Sandhu has been the first addition to the new version.

There’s been trouble for Vikram’s son Dhruv Vikram’s debut ‘Varmaa’ which after being fully shot, has been scrapped for being ‘unsatisfactory’. The makers are going ahead with a reshoot of the movie, which is the Tamil remake of Telugu hit ‘Arjun Reddy’, and ‘October’ actress Banita Sandhu has been the first addition to the new version.

The news was confirmed by trade analyst Taran Adarsh and the production house E4 Entertainment on Twitter. 

Earlier, Megha Chowdhury was the lead actress of the movie and Banita has stepped into her shoes. The actress' 'October', directed by Shoojit Sircar, was among the most critically acclaimed films of last year and this will be her second major role. 

The trailer of ‘Varmaa’ (the title then) had hit social media in January, and the movie was gearing up for release on Valetine’s Day. However, on February 7, the makers announced that they were not happy with the final version submitted to them by director Bala and decided not to release it over ‘creative and other differences.’

They announced a fresh shoot to 'stay true to the soul and intention of the original’ with Dhruv in the lead, and that the announcements about the cast and crew and director would be made shortly. The producers had also called the situation an ‘unfortunate turn of events’, one that cost them ‘heavily’, but added that their love for see the 'cult film' in Tamil had not diminished in any way and that they were 'working tirelessly as a new united team' towards a June release.

Bala, who is known for directing some of Vikram’s popular films ‘Sethu’ and ‘Pithamagan,’ had said that he was ‘relieving’ himself from the project to 'safeguard creative freedom' and in consideration of Dhruv’s future.

Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor had been going all guns blazing for the Hindi version of 'Arjun Reddy', titled 'Kabir Singh.'
