Child actor Sunny Pawar has made the country proud on an international level as he won the Best Child Actor award at the 19th New York Indian Film Festival 2019 for the film 'Chippa'.

The 11-year-old who is reportedly a resident of Kunchi Kurve Nagar's slum area near Kalina rose to fame for his portrayal of a lost child in the 2016 venture 'Lion' which also starred Dev Patel in the lead.  The film was critically acclaimed and had bagged the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Sunny's latest film 'Chippa' is a coming-of-age film about the aspirations of a child who lives on the streets. The plot of the film revolves around the journey of Chippa, on the wintry nights of Kolkata, after he receives a letter for his long-absent father on the eve of his tenth birthday and decides to leave his pavement abode to find out more.

The film, written and directed by Safdar Rahman, pays homage to the spirit and innocence of children. The film had several prestigious screenings including the MAMI 2018 release. It was also screened at various International film festivals like Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, Mipcom and others.
