Chasni - The Sugar Syrup

The animated movie is directed by Abhishek Verma. It sends out a strong message to the audience that acid attack survivors, despite being the victims, have to often live their lives in loneliness. In the video, an acid attack survivor narrates her life story about how people around her are afraid of her. The short film starts with a woman making tea for herself when she discovers that she has run out of tea leaves. It is revealed at that moment that since she is an acid attack survivor, she is hesitant to simply go outside and buy more tea leaves. She starts to contemplate whether she should go outside to buy tea leaves or not because for that, she will have to face the people who become spiteful as soon as she passes by them. She relives her traumatic past experiences where she just wanted to become invisible and hide from the daunting looks of the society.

Message to the audience

The message is very clear, the narrator wishes the society could be more compassionate, so that she did not have to live in the confinement of her house, behind closed doors. The narrator asks the society to be more understanding and sensitive towards her and many like her. This makes the viewers question themselves as to what kind of society are we living in. Have we as a society become so insensitive towards other people’s emotions that we fail to understand their plight?
