Author and Columnist Ira Trivedi, who accused popular author Chetan Bhagat of misconduct, has sent in a legal notice to the latter on October 22. The notice charges Chetan guilty of eve-teasing (Section 509 IPC), of harassment (Section 354 A, D IPC), of Cyberbullying and other cyber crimes under the IT Act i.e.( Sections 66, 499, 500, 503 IPC). She has also gone ahead and shared mail trail of her conversation with Chetan which she says has been taken out of context.
Speaking exclusively to Republic TV, Ira shared how she felt when she saw her personal emails being misconstrued on social media. Here's what she has to say:
"I was completely blown away by this because it is an unethical behaviour to release someone's personal emails. Especially out of context emails. Miss you, kiss you, he used that email to tell his 12.3 million followers that I was trying to kiss him. The reality was that the email that came three minutes later in which he himself says that it is a figure of speech. He tries to persist and I do not reply to any of his emails. I know I made a mistake by shooting up that email very quickly. Sometimes you let things in a hurry and you regret them later on and I quickly avoided his questions and he himself said why are you dodging the question on the kiss.
He didn't just lie about this, he lied about 'Gumrah' book because to be honest that was a joint event where both of us where paid by the channel to be present for the book launch. It was completely professional. Him and I had very little conversation which was before the launch. The irony here is that when other girls accused him by releasing Tweets, he said that these screenshots and messages have been taken out of context and that's why these are untrue but he went ahead and did that himself. So by releasing the next email, I have shown his persistent harassing behaviour."
Further talking about the way big-wigs are trying to cover up for their wrongdoings, Ira said, "This is completely pathetic and they are digging their own graves. Chetan Bhagat, every single time something happens, he goes to Twitter, Facebook, live or any manner possible to talk about it and this is the reason I issued a legal notice to him so that this can go into a court of law because he just cannot malign a woman's reputation to 12 million people. That's completely incorrect and unacceptable."
Chetan Bhagat, who is quite vocal on social media regarding the proceedings of this issue, hasn't commented on this yet.
