On account of the 25th anniversary of Friends, the popular sit-com; here are some of the phrases from friends which made their way into our everyday vocabulary.

Recently, the era-defining American sitcom, Friends, celebrated its silver jubilee. The show first aired on September 22, 1994, and has been a fan favourite ever since. In its 10-year-long run, the show has popularised some phrases that have eventually become a part of our lives. Thus, on the 25th anniversary of the series, let’s take a look at some of the most iconic phrases from the show which have become a part of our vocabulary.

Phrases from F.R.I.E.N.D.S that we can find in our vocabulary

“How Ya Doin” – Joey Tribbiani

One of the most commonly used phrases today is "How Ya Doin". The phrase is credited to the F.R.I.E.N.D.S actor, Matt LeBlanc who played Joey Tribbiani in the series. The phrase is not only used widely in this modern-day but also commonly used in the series. The way Matt LeBlanc’s Joey delivers the phrase is also a reason for its popularity among the youth today.

“Joey doesn’t share food!” – Joey Tribbiani

Another famous phrase from the show that has made its way into our vocabulary is “Joey doesn’t share food!”. Matt LeBlanc’s Joey character coined the phrase, as is evident from the words itself. People don’t mind sharing things with their friends and family, but they tend to "do a Joey" when it comes to sharing their favourite food. People tend to have a fictitious version of the same, screaming “Joey doesn’t share food!”  to the person who is trying to grab a bite of their food.

“We were on a break” – Ross Geller

David Schwimmer’s Ross Gellar coined “We were on a break” during the series. Ever since then, the phrase has been fans' go-to option for any break up related conversation. People often tend to go back to this phrase as a famous one-liner. Nowadays, it is common to say “We were on a break” to anyone and everyone.

“Pivot! Pivot!” – Ross Gellar

One of the hilarious phrases from the series was Ross Gellar’s “Pivot!” The expression was seen in use when Ross Gellar, Chandler Bing and Rachel Green were trying to move to a newly bought sofa to their room. F.R.I.E.N.D.S  fans use the phrase almost every day in their life. The phrase has also been translated into various popular memes nowadays.
