The Kerala floods are said to be the worst in the century as said by Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan. The 'calamity of severe nature' has destroyed many homes and most of the infrastructure in the flood-hit state. Around 474 people have lost their lives owing to the floods. However, help poured in from various regions for the flood-hit state and many Bollywood actors such as Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Kangana Ranaut and Sushant Singh Rajput have contributed towards the relief of the relief of the victims of Kerala floods. Celebrities like Sunny Leone, Siddhant Kapoor, and Shakti Kapoor have also donated food and other necessities for the victims.
In addition to that, several actors from the South Indian film fraternity like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Devrakonda, Keerthy Suresh, Thalapathy Vijay, Vikram, Suriya Sivakumar, Karthi Sivakumar, Ram Charan Teja, and Allu Arjun have also contributed towards the relief of the victims affected by the floods. However, actors of the 80's have joined hands and have donated Rs. 40 lakh towards the welfare of the victims of the flood-hit state. They sent a letter to the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan stating that they have not just collected the amount amongst themselves but also from their friends, family, neighbors, and well-wishers for the cause.
The letter read, "Sir We are south indian actors from the 80's. We meet once a year to share our joys and troubles. This year our thoughts are with Kerala ..Many of our friends from our 80's re union group have already donated generous sums close to one crore for re building Kerala ... We have decided to gather not just our 80's colleagues but our friends, family, neighbours and well wishers too to extend their support to Kerala . We together are handing over rupees 40 lakh to the Chief Minister of Kerala on the 31st ..We thank each and everyone who have donated to this cause ..We request all our brothers and sisters too to keep kerala in your thoughts ..The efforts of people on the ground who risked their own lives to help their neighbours, friends and strangers and saved so many lives stand above any contributions!"
The letter further mentioned the fourteen names that could fit in, in the letter. These names include names of eminent personalities like director Mani Ratnam, his wife Suhasini, actress Jayasudha, Kushbu and Sundar, Rajkumar Sethupathy, Jackie Shroff, Poornima Bhagyaraj, and Saritha among others.
