Kannada Actor Vijay Arrested On Assault Charge

  • Vijay Kumar has been booked by The High Grounds Police under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 325 (punishment for causing grievous hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).

Kannada Actor Vijay and his three friends have been arrested on the charge of allegedly assaulting a gym trainer. The man has been identified as Maruthi Gowda, who is the nephew of the actor’s former trainer Pani Puri Kitty. Vijay Kumar has been booked by The High Grounds Police under IPC sections 365 (kidnapping), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 325 (punishment for causing grievous hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). The police reportedly stated that they have taken Vijay and his three friends into custody on a complaint registered by the victim's relative, Pani Puri Kitty.

As per the complaint, the accused whisked away with his Maruti car outside an event hall on Saturday night, September 22 and assaulted Maruthi Gowda in a moving car before freeing him. In the complaint, Kitty further claims that the accused and the victim went to watch a bodybuilding match event at the Ambedkar Bhavan in the city centre and quarrelled over some issue, soon after which the incident occurred.

Reportedly, Vijay has denied the assault and claimed that it was his fans who attacked Maruthi Gowda for abusing him during the scuffle at the hall. Commenting on the subject, Shankar, the Assistant Police Commissioner Shankar stated that the officials will investigate the case after recording the statement of the victim, who is currently admitted to a private hospital with bruises. As per reports, Vijay was on bail after he was arrested for another case on June 8, on the charge of obstructing police officials from investigating an accidental death of two actors by drowning. The incident occurred during a film shoot in a city lake in November 2016, wherein he was playing the lead role. 

Reportedly, In 2013, Vijay Kumar's then-wife Nagarathna had alleged that she was received death threats from the actor’s brother Nagaraj as the actor had filed for divorce. 

The actor shot to fame when his fans started calling him 'Duniya' after his Kannada film 'Duniya' became a blockbuster. Since then, Vijay Kumar has featured in many films such as 'Chanda', 'Junglee', 'Johny Mera Naam Preethi Mera Kaam 'and 'Jayammana Maga'.
