Malayalam superstar Mohanlal had called #MeToo movement a ‘fad’ and ‘something of a fashion.’ However, actor-director Revathy, co-star of Mohanlal in many popular films like ‘Kilukkam,’ ‘Mayamayooram,’ Agnidevan,' ‘Devasuram’, was not too pleased with his comment.

After Tanushree Dutta’s allegations of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar snowballed into #MeToo India, the movement has lost steam of late. After names of multiple celebrities were named almost on a daily basis and action taken accordingly, the movement isn’t making headlines in the same way today.

Amid this decline, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal had also called #MeToo a ‘fad’ and ‘something of a fashion.’ At a press conference for a charity event in Dubai recently, he had said, “There’s no big problem in the Malayalam industry. You shouldn’t think of the #MeToo as a movement actually. It’s a fad and it’s turning into something of a fashion. Anything like that will have a lifespan for a bit.”

However, actor-director Revathy, co-star of Mohanlal in many popular films like ‘Kilukkam,’ ‘Mayamayooram,’ Agnidevan,' ‘Devasuram’, among others was not too pleased with his comment. Without naming him, she wrote how a 'renowned actor' called it a ‘fad.’ She continued by asking how to bring a ‘degree of sensitivity’ to people with such opinions. Quoting filmmaker Anjali Menon, the veteran added further how people who had arrived from Mars were not aware of what it felt to be abused, to call out and how that could bring about a change.

Revathy was also among the most vocal voices involving female celebrities who had raised an objection over Dileep's reinstatement into Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Mohanlal, who is the President of the association, also got flak for ‘supporting’ the actor convicted in the kidnapping and molestation case of an actress,
