While addressing the controversies surrounding her upcoming Magnus opus film Padmavati, actress Deepika Padukone commented that the nation seems to be regressing and it makes her feel rather appalled seeing all tempers soaring for no reason. As per reports, the 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' actress said,
"It's appalling, it's absolutely appalling. What have we gotten ourselves into? And where have we reached as a nation? We have regressed."
The comment from the Bollywood heavyweight has not gone down well with Rajya Sabha MP and noted lawyer, Dr. Subramanium Swamy, who responded to her reaction with a tweet which states
Following which he spoke to the media and he said,
"If one movie is not shown the country is regressed, this shows she is illiterate. She should go back to the classrooms and learn something. Just doing cinema and having an expression on the nation's progress that is terrible."
"That is why I tweeted that whenever we progress, it is so only if Deepika Padukone regards it as regression. And somebody has pointed it out on Twitter that she was born in Copenhagen, we don't even know if she's a citizen on india."
He further added,
"Also she is acting in a movie where she's paid handsomely. And now to blame the whole country because her film is not being shown, she should be condemned by everyone in the country."
Her reaction according to Swami is a reflection on the degenerating morality of the film industry at large and not a critique of the nation at large.
At a media interaction attended by Subramanian Swamy, he reacted to Deepika Padukone's comments. Earlier actress Deepika Padukone had called the nation as regressing, and so the counter reaction was given by Swami by calling her thinking regressive. These comments have been made revolving around the release of the controversial film 'Padmaavati'
