Noted singer-violinist Balabhaskar who was seriously injured in a car accident last week in Kerala died at a hospital early in Thiruvananthapuram on October 2, 2018 post a cardiac arrest. The musician's two-year-old daughter was killed when the family's car hit a tree after the driver lost control. Balabhaskar was a blessed singer and a supremely talented violinist, he gave the audience and his fans the gift of soothing and great music. Though the celebrated musician passed away on a painful note, his music will always be remembered.

Balabhaskar’s knowledge of music made him a celebrity when he was still a student. He was one of the earliest stars of the Malayalam small screen and he soon broke free from that medium and became a star in his own right with albums and live performances all over the world. Even as the trained classical musician’s violin exuded melody, he proved that nothing musical was taboo for him, be it ragas or rock. He enjoyed an immense fan following all over the world. His YouTube videos would cross over a million views making him extremely popular among the youth on social media.

Balabhaskar made his debut public performance with the violin at the age of twelve. He was brought up in a family that was musically inclined and he started his training at the age of three under his guru and uncle, a veteran musician Mr. B Sasikumar. Though Balabhaskar learned music in a traditional sense, he was the one who created a revolution in instrumental fusion music. He always wanted to tap the potential of world-class musicians in India.

During his career, Balabhaskar had collaborated and performed with music maestros like Sivamani, Ustad Zakir Hussain, H, Hariharan, and Fazal Qureshi to name a few. In 2008, Balabhaskar had received the Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeetkaar Puraskaar by Kendra Sangeet Natak Academy for Instrumental Music (Violin). Balabhaskar had composed music for at least three films and had brought out several music albums apart from introducing fusion music to Keralites.
