While there’s no doubt whatsoever about Mohanlal’s superstardom in Malayalam film industry, the veteran, in recent times, has established a following further down South by working with popular stars Vijay and Jr NTR in Tamil and Telugu movies respectively. He is now set to work with another superstar, Suriya in ‘Kaappaan’ and there was mutual admiration during a recent Facebook live session.
The ‘Drishyam’ star recently participated in a Facebook live session from Hyderabad. While the 1-hour session featured numerous stars like Manju Warrier, his ‘Lucifer’ director Prithviraj and Tovino Thomas, it was Suriya joining in from Chennai that was the highlight of the session.
Suriya raved about Mohanlal, “He is the best we have in our country. We have learned about acting watching his movies. I was introduced to Malayalam cinema with 'Kilukkam', 'Kireedam', 'Spadikam' and all his wonderful films. I take reference for my films from his work. Most of us actors, we know that we are performing for the camera. But, even if there is a magnifying lens right in front of his face, he will make it disappear.”
“Imagine, how I would have felt when I had to act alongside such an actor,” the actor added.
Tamil stars enjoy a superb fan following in Kerala as well and Mohanlal, while highlighting it, returned the praise, by calling Suriya the “sweetheart of Kerala.” “The audience in Kerala is so happy that I am doing a film with you.”
When quizzed on featuring in Mollywood, Suriya said, “I was about to do a Malayalam film. But it did not materialise. It will happen when the time is right. Before the end of my career, I will do it to give back the love.”
Opening on ‘Kaappan’, Suriya said, “The film revolves around the moments that the PM shares with an SPG officer.”
He continued, “Mohanlal sir plays the role of the Prime Minister and I play an SPG officer.”
The ‘Pulimurugan' star simplified it, “Kaappaan means protector. He is protecting me.”
Opening up further on their bond, Suriya shared, “Mohanlal sir spoke so much about his film 'Lucifer' and Prithviraj on the sets of 'Kaappaan.'” He also spoke about his co-star's philosophy, “He told me that the past was a bucket of ashes. What’s happened has happened and that one should not think about it too much.”
The ‘Ghajini’ star’s praise didn’t stop for Mohanlal there, “A legend like him to hug me and tell me that I could call him any time I want is a learning for me. I can never become an actor like Lal sir. But when I reach his age, I think I should treat the younger generation the way he is treating us.”
