Comedian Utsav has been accused of sending explicit messages to several women. On Thursday, a Twitter user pointed the irony in the latest tweet by the comedian. She accused the comedian of being disrespectful towards women, by sending them sexually explicit messages. The user also posted narratives told to her by several other women about the nature of Utsav.
Post a series of accusations, popular comedians stood up against Utsav and condemned the act. Comedy group AIB has released a second statement in the matter. Several citizens had accused AIB of keeping their mouth shut, despite knowing the nature of Utsav. The comedy group let out a statement, clarifying about the same.
In their second statement, they wrote, "Some time after Utsav had stopped being an AIB employess, Tanmay Bhat received specific, detailed allegations about him in a private and personal conversation. Tanmay confronted Utsav in a personal capacity-which led to Utsav calling the victim, leading to further harassment." In the statement, tehy said that Utsav started working with them in free-lance capacity, which they said was a "big mistake".
In their first statement they had said that it has decided to de-list every video featuring a former member who has been accused of sexual harassment by women on social media. AIB said it has been following the allegations against Utsav Chakraborty on social media and these describe a pattern of behaviour that is unacceptable.
“We are also aware that by extending safe working spaces and a collaborative environment to people like Utsav, we have contributed towards a toxic environment that can be scary and unsafe for women. And so we are sorry for any part we may have played in the tolerance or furthering of such behaviour,” AIB said in a statement posted on Twitter.
“If these allegations result in any investigation, the team at AIB would be willing to cooperate and extend full support to it. Also, pending the result of any such investigation, we are immediately delisting every single video on our channels that feature Utsav,” it said. The group said Utsav never worked as a head writer and is no longer a part of the organisation.
After a series of accusations and several popular comedians standing up against the comedian,Utsav responded to the allegations in series of tweets and apologised for all the messages. However, he later deleted all the tweets and replaced it by one tweet in which he asked people as to what he is supposed to do now as he does not want to hurt anyone.
