Televisions biggest night came to life as stars attended the 70th Emmy Awards this year. Unlike every year, Netflix beat HBO by securing as much as 112 total nominations while 'Game Of Thrones' bagged 22 nominations including the one for best drama series. This is also the first year where Netflix has ever bested premium cable nominations.
Colin Jost and Michael Che from the 'Saturday Night Live' hosted the evening that saw a diverse range of wins. While Emmy nominees nervously waited to hear their name, it was 'The Crown' actress Claire Foy that bagged the award for Lead Actress In Drama Series for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II. Foy’s role has come to an end and she emotionally referenced her time on the show and promised that she wouldn’t cry. (She didn’t.)
It is Foy’s first Emmy win on her second nomination for the Netflix series, which tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II’s rise to the throne in the upheaval of post-World War II Britain.
'The Americans' star Matthew Rhys won Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his impeccable performance. "Joe Weisberg, parts like these come along so rarely, what you created and risked, I will be forever in your debt," he said.
While Claire Foy and Matthew Rhys bagged the biggest awards for the night, 'The Marvelous Mrs Maisel' won the Outstanding Award For Comedy Series. Producer Daniel Palladino - husband of writer and director Amy Sherman-Palladino accepted the award on behalf of the show. With major nominations, 'Game Of Thrones' bagged the Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series.
D.B. Weiss accepted the award with the show's cast and crew, who said, "The show cannot be without the mad genius of George R.R. Martin."
Emilia Clark aka Dragon Queen Daenerys was amongst the first few celebs taking to social media ahead of the red carpet giving a glimpse of their look for the night. She was all smiles while posing for the shutterbugs in her shimmery gown.
