After 'Game of Thrones', get ready for yet another magical mystery ride, as HBO along with BBC has announced a TV series 'His Dark Materials' which showcases a fantastical world where a war is brewing between an authoritarian Church and people who resist it. The trailer of the upcoming series surfaced recently at the San Diego Comic-Con and was highly appreciated by the netizens.

Based on the book series by Philip Pullman, the series is set in a parallel universe where every person has their own shapeshifting, animal-shaped companion, a manifestation of their soul. The story follows the journey of a young girl named Lyra Belacqua who sets out to find her best friend Roger after he vanishes from the Orphanage. She sets off into the Arctic to find him and discovers a conspiracy involving her world’s domineering Church.

The trailer that surfaced recently shows Lyra, played by 'Logan’s Dafne Keen, gradually unfolding the Church’s cruel intentions and free her friends. James McAvoy plays Lord Asriel in the upcoming venture, while Ruth Wilson portrays Church agent Mrs. Coulter, who takes Lyra under her wing for nefarious purposes.

Along the way, Lyra meets aeronaut Lee Scoresby, played by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who gives her an oracular device called an arthrometer, which helps her identify the truth. She also comes across an armored polar bear which helps her in the mission. HBO hasn’t yet revealed a release date for the show’s launch, teasing only that it’ll be released this fall.
