With the release of its third season on Colors, Naagin has reportedly become the number one TV series among the Hindi entertainment channels in terms of TRPs. Since its launch in June 2019, it has reportedly been at the top of the TRP charts. The show was started by the then Balaji head Sameer Nair, who was partly responsible for making Naagin a super hit success. Sameer Nair reportedly said that there lay a huge opportunity for Naagin as it has a viewer base of about 800 million people.

The story of an icchhadhari Naagin that started in 2015 is going on even after a break of one long year for its third season to air. The fictional plotline set in modern times is gaining high ratings and has become a mass entertainment show due to its clutter-breaking nature and very minimal competition in the genre. Channel executives used disruptive programming by exploring the unexplored fantasy world. They changed the viewing habits of the viewers, by giving them weekend fantasy shows while every other channel was showing reality TV shows on weekends.

Another reason for its success is that it comes in the form of series after long breaks creating a more engaging viewership. The current Balaji head also added that breaks between the seasons bring novelty to the story. Season 3 reportedly started with an average viewership of 10.8 million in urban Indian Hindi speaking markets reported Broadcast Audience Research Council. The third season numbers are currently lower than expected, but the firm reported that it will probably surpass the viewership it gained in the first season. The show has been dubbed in various regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Malayalam to attract rural Indian viewers.

To add support to its possible success is the mix of family drama, revenge, romance, suspense and plot twists portrayed in the series, that are beyond people’s imagination as per audiences. The visuals used in making the series also play an integral role in the show's success. Producers have said that people connect to it because the naags have been a part of Hindu culture for a long period of time. People like to watch the fantasy which includes mythology as they try to connect the ancient beliefs.
