Vijay Sethupathi is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Merry Christmas. The actor will be seen opposite Katrina Kaif. In a recent interview, he opened up about his Mumbai memories, sharing insights into his journey, including a missed opportunity with Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha.

In an interview with Mashable, Vijay Sethupathi revealed that he was initially set to play a role in Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha. Recounting his first visit to Mumbai, the actor shared a memorable experience of having coffee and a cigarette with Khan at the actor's home. Despite the missed opportunity, Sethupati said that he cherished the special memory of being hosted by a Bollywood icon.
He said, “I was supposed to do Laal Singh Chaddha. So I met the director in the afternoon and when I was leaving, Aamir sir called me and said, ‘Can we meet?’ I went to his home. So the first time when I came to Mumbai, I went to a star’s home and I had coffee and a cigarette with him. And after that, Aamir sir came and dropped me to the airport.”
What do we know about Laal Singh Chaddha?
Laal Singh Chaddha is an adaptation of the Robert Zemeckis 1994 comedy-drama 'Forrest Gump', which starred Hollywood icon Tom Hanks in what would be considered as one of his iconic characters. The film got a thumbs-up from The Academy.
The official Twitter account of The Academy, which recognises excellence in the motion picture arts and sciences, shared a video compilation of snippets from 'Forest Gump' and the Aamir Khan-starrer.
A tweet from The Academy called the Bollywood film a "faithful Indian adaptation". "Robert Zemeckis and Eric Roth's sweeping story of a man who changes the world with kindness receives a faithful Indian adaptation in Advait Chandan and Atul Kulkarni's 'Laal Singh Chaddha' feat. Aamir Khan in the role made famous by Tom Hanks," read the tweet.
The Academy's twitter handle also mention the number of Oscars nominations 'Forest Gump' had. "1994's 'Forrest Gump' was nominated for 13 Oscars including six wins for: ac Best Actor (Tom Hanks) ac Directing (Robert Zemeckis) ac Film Editing (Arthur Schmidt) ac Best Picture (Wendy Finerman, Steve Tisch and Steve Starkey, Producers) ac Adapted Screenplay (Eric Roth)".
Released on August 11, Laal Singh Chaddha starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh.
