Nag Ashwin Slams Sandeep Reddy Vanga? Director's Post On 'Obscenity, Provocative Content' Goes Viral

Set 6000 years after the Kurukshetra war Kalki 2898 AD combines elements of Mahabharata with science fiction. The movie features Prabhas, Deepika and Amitabh.

Nag Ashwin is basking in the success of his recent project Kalki 2898 AD which has become one of the highest-grossing movies in Indian cinema ever. Set 6000 years after the Kurukshetra war the film combines elements of Mahabharata with science fiction. The movie features Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. Days after the release of the film, the filmmaker has taken to his social media account to express gratitude for its mammoth success.

Nag Ashwin’s gratitude post for Kalki raises eyebrows 


On July 13, days after the release of Kalki 2898 AD, the director of the movie, Nag Ashwin took to his Instagram account to share a gratitude post for the film. Sharing a poster of the sci-fi movie, the director mentioned that even though the box office numbers of the film are massive, what makes it unique is that there was no gore violence in the movie. The filmmaker does not mention any names in his post, but social media users, especially on Reddit are of the opinion, that his post was a dig at Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal.

Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor became one of the most talked about films of 2023 and also one of the highest-grossing movies ever. However, a section of the society threw major backlash for the movie being gore, violent and sexist. In his post, Nag Ashwin wrote, “This milestone..this number… is obviously massive for a young team like ours….but the fact that we achieved it without blood, gore, obscenity, provocative or exploitative content, means so much.. A big thank you to the audience and the actors who stood behind us. Indian cinema #repatitosam.”

Kalki 2898 AD surpasses Animal at the box office 


According to the makers, Kalki 2898 AD crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark at the worldwide box office on July 13, putting it ahead of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal in terms of gross collections. Animal was one of the highest grossers of 2023 and raked in Rs 915 crore worldwide during its lifetime.

Ever since its release on June 27, Kalki 2898 AD has been attracting an audience to housefull theatres. The film has netted Rs 536 crore in India and looks unstoppable. Talking about his state of mind given the stellar response to the film at the box office, the director called it “a lot of satisfaction.”
