Rajkummar Rao is currently basking in the success of his recently released movie Stree 2. The movie has been soaring high at the box office earning Rs 290.85 crore in the opening week. Amid enjoying the mammoth success of the movie, the actor defended Devdas and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal. He shared his opinion on both the movies.

In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Rajkummar was asked about the glorification of negative characters in the movies and cited the examples of Devdas and Animal.

It’s a character story: Rajkummar Rao

Defending Devdas, Rajkummar said that the problem is when somebody is trying to be Devdas in real life. Elaborating his statement, the actor said that Sanjay Leela Bhansali presented the story of a guy but didn't ask the viewers to be like him. The character dies in the end, so by this, the filmmaker is telling viewers that if they do this, then they might die sooner. "He is not telling you ke iske saath ye sab kuch ho raha hai fir bhi ye to jee raha hai paisa hi paisa hai uske paas (He is not telling you that he is going through all this, yet he has a lot of money)," Rajkummar added.

Rajkummar Rao admits loving Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal

Rajkummar also defended Animal and said that he loved watching Animal. However, he acknowledged that there were some scenes that he had issues with, yet he enjoyed the experience of watching the movie. "I loved Animal, the experience of watching Animal. I enjoyed it," he said. He further praised the performance of Ranbir Kapoor and said that he was "mind-blowing" in the movie. He addressed the debate around the plot of Animal and recalled a senior film critic saying that the film was titled Animal and not an "Idol man" or "Aadarsh Purush" as the director wanted to show the story of animal. The title of the film suggests the nature of the movie and the director makes it clear that people will be "coming to watch an animal".

Animal was widely criticised for glorifying misogyny and violence. The movie, which explores the relationship between a father and son, sparked a debate on social media and remained a hot topic for months after its release.
