Konda Surekha Apologises To Samantha After Making Distateful Remark On Divorce With Naga Chaitanya
Samantha-Naga Chaitanya Divorce: The distasteful comments made by the Telangana minister received backlash from the former couple and other industry insiders.
Samantha-Naga Chaitanya Divorce: Telangana’s Forests and Environment Minister Konda Surekha on Wednesday alleged that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President, K.T. Rama Rao, was responsible for the separation of actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. She claimed that K.T. Rama Rao was addicted to drugs and he blackmailed film personalities. Both Samantha and Naga Chaitanya slammed the minister for her distasteful remarks. Konda Surekha has now retracted her comments and apologised to the Citadel Hunny Bunny actress.
What did Konda Surekha say about Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitnay's divorce?
Launching a scathing attack on the BRS leader, the minister told media persons that K.T. Rama Rao was behind many actresses leaving films and marrying early. In a video going viral, Konda Surekha can be heard saying, "KTR is the reason why Naga Chaitanya and Samantha broke up in the first place. He has the habit of exploiting women and even heroines. He has gotten several heroines addicted to drugs. He even tapped their phones to get personal information. Doesn’t he have a mother, sister, and wife at home? Why doesn’t he respect and value women.”
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha separated in October 2021 after four years of marriage. Now, Chaitanya is engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala and is likely to get married by the end of the year.
How did Samantha Ruth Prabhu react to Konda Surekha's comment?
Both Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya took to their social media accounts to react strongly to the comments made by the minister. Taking to her Instagram Stories, Samantha shared a long statement asking Minister Konda Surekha to keep her name out of political battles. She highlighted that it takes a lot of "courage and strength" for a female artist to survive in a glamorous industry. "To be a woman, to come out and work, to survive in a glamourous industry where women are more often than not treated as props. To fall in love and to fall out of love. To still stand up and fight. It takes a lot of courage and strength," she wrote.
Samantha continued, "Konda Surekha Garu, I am proud of what this journey turned me into - please don't trivialise it." She reminded Surekha, "I hope you realise that your words carry significant weight as a minister. I implore you to be responsible and respectful of individuals' privacy." Opening up about her divorce from Naga Chaitanya, the actress wrote, "My divorce is a personal matter, and I request that you refrain from speculating about it. Our choice to keep things private doesn't invite misrepresentation. To Clarify: My divorce was mutual consent and amicable, with no political conspiracy." She concluded her statement by writing, "Could you please keep my name out of political battles? I have always remained non-political and wish to continue doing so."
Konda Surekha apologises to Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Hours after her comments, the Telangana minister took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to apologise to Samantha. She wrote, "My comments are meant to question a leader's belittling of women and not to hurt your @Samanthaprabhu2 sentiments. The way you have grown up with self-power is not only an admiration for me.. but also an ideal. (sic)"
In another post, she wrote, “If you or your fans are offended by my comments, I unconditionally retract my comments. Don't think otherwise.”
