The former Miss Universe shared an important chapter in her motherhood journey—the fight in the High Court for the adoption of her first daughter, Renee. Sen mentioned that Renee was initially placed under foster care, and the court hearing took place after six months. The High Court's scrutiny included assessing Sen's suitability as a single, unmarried parent.

During the court proceedings, when the judge raised concerns about the impact on Sushmita Sen's marriage and life due to the adoption decision, her father, Subir Sen, conveyed that no father would be entirely okay with such a decision, but he affirmed that they hadn't raised Sushmita to be solely identified by her marital status. He expressed confidence in his daughter's commitment to motherhood and pledged unwavering support.

She said, “No father will be okay with that your honour. But what I know for sure is we haven't raised her to be her only identity to be someone's wife, she's chosen this motherhood and the one thing I know my daughter to do is to follow through, she will follow through, and she has my support, she has her mother, she has the family. Give us Renee.”
